Innuen-do Me

Arm-wrestle me with words for a smile.
I will fight back with all the strength that I have,
Until I remember that I already lost this one
Long before I had started.
Tickle my mind with innuendoes.
I will fall on Freudian slips
Just to prove to myself that I still take things lightly.
I will ignore all emotion — it’s a mental battle, after all.
Knock me down with a pun.
I will laugh, because pain and laughter hold hands in my heart.
I will bruise myself with bitterness and
Wear pants to cover up the marks.
Chase me with your whispers.
I will hide behind the wall I’ve built around myself,
Occasionally peeking over to see if you have given up.
At least you cannot see my eyes tonight.
